The BEETS Team (Barnet Education Employment and Training Support) works to support young people in Barnet between the ages of 13 and 19 by providing high quality information, advice and guidance (careers guidance) regarding post 16 options. This helps them to develop skills and achieve positive outcomes.
We provide this in schools, colleges and a wide range of community venues where particularly work with NEET young people who need support to get them back in education, employment and training. The team has Level 6 trained and experienced careers advisers. The team has attained the Matrix Quality standard for the delivery of information, advice and guidance.

- careers interviews for students in years 8-13
- careers events for schools, including apprenticeship / employer events
- helping schools senior management teams develop careers strategy including working towards the Investor in Careers Quality Standard.
Providing one to one mentoring support from an experienced mentor on a traded service basis for school students and other referrals who require additional support to achieve their goals.
Specialist careers advice for young people with education and health care plans
Provided by a specialist adviser in this field on a traded service basis to support these young people with career choices and options for the future.
Events - careers fairs
Organising careers/post 16 options and apprenticeships events for Barnet young people 16-19 who are
seeking future options or who are not in education employment or training to link them with FE colleges, training providers and employers who can help them with opportunities.
The Team organises a careers forum to bring together careers advisers and senior school managers in
Barnet to develop best practice in careers guidance across the borough and co-ordinate borough wide careers initiatives.
Work club sessions
Designed for Barnet Young People 16-19 who are not in education employment or training to assist in developing employability skills CVs and interview techniques; often organised jointly with training providers and employers.
Using computers in careers guidance
The BEETS advisers use a variety of computer media
to deliver IAG to young people including JED and
PLOTR software as well as a variety of social media including Facebook.
Health and Safety workplace inspections for work experience
The BEETs team provides a traded service to schools to inspect workplaces for health and safety in terms of work experience placements for students.
Monitoring destinations of young people
The BEETs team works jointly with schools to assist them to monitor and tracking the destinations of their leavers.
